The Cannes Film Festival trumped all other sartorial celebrity spottings this week and most of the men attending got it right when dressing for the red carpet or more relaxed events. Brad Pitt rolled into the photo call for his film Killing Them Softly in a look that manages to be both dressy and casual – and completely appropriate for one of the world’s biggest movie stars.
The trick to toning down a suit is to first make sure the suit itself isn’t too precious. Opt for a casual-leaning fabric like Pitt does with his cotton number. The t-shirt underneath should have a more relaxed fit to contrast with the tailored structure of the suit. Pitt finished his look off with suede bucks, which are appropriate for a stop in the Côte d’Azur, but we’d go with a simple pair of white kicks to keep it on the sporty side of things.
